From his work in the exploding early Hollywood punk music scene with his band The Plugz, producing bands like The Gun Club, to film scoring, building a substantial acting career, and founding Fatima Records, Tito Larriva truly earns the title given to him by the LA Times: Renaissance Man.
The Plugz were an inspiring beacon for the early Latino/Latinx punk community. Scholars of Latino culture recognize the band for their unconventional version of “La Bamba” and their influence
on Chicano/Xicanx rockers of Southern California.
Larriva brought his unique sensibility to the score of the cult classic “Repo Man”, featuring “Hombre Secreto,” a Spanish-language version of the 60’s nugget “Secret Agent Man”. His career continued with an energetic ferocity, building a prolific collection of credits, including producing “The Pee-Wee Herman Show” cast album, The Gun Club’s debut ”Fire of Love”, his role in David Byrne’s “True Stories” and into the 80’s with Larriva’s new incarnation, The Cruzados. In 1992, The Cruzados gave way to Tito & Tarantula where Larriva began his relationship with Robert Rodriguez. He went on to act, score, and perform in a half-dozen Rodriguez films, notably “From Dusk Till Dawn” where his song “After Dark” was prominently featured. Tito and Tarantula is set to release their highly-anticipated album, “Brincamos" This latest offering is a sonic journey that explores the depths of the human soul, laced with the raw power of rock and the rich tapestry of the band Latino/Latinx punk Rock heritage.
